Michael Guley

Mike is a valued member of the Back to Nature Ecotherapy team, bringing over 30 years of experience in education, care, and community work. A trained primary school teacher, he has worked extensively in schools and educational settings, as well as providing day care for individuals with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and Autism.

Experience and Specialisation: Mike has decades of experience supporting children, teens, and adults in education and care. He is also deeply involved in men’s circles and men’s work in New Zealand and Western Australia, where he supports men to grow, connect, and develop a stronger sense of purpose.

Approach: Relaxed and grounded, Mike’s approach centres on deep listening and empathy. He believes every behaviour stems from an unmet need, and by exploring this together, clients can find clarity and self-understanding. His sessions are client-led, safe, and supportive.

Values and Qualities: Gentleness, patience, and empathy define Mike’s practice. Clients experience a calm, steady presence that honours their journey and encourages self-discovery.

Beliefs: “It takes a village to raise a child. We are all connected, and with that connection comes a shared responsibility for one another and the natural world. In honouring this interconnection, we nurture both our collective good and our place within nature.”

Interests: Mike enjoys tramping (hiking), music, photography, dance, and time in nature—interests that often enrich his sessions through creativity, movement, and connection to the natural world.

Goals: Mike’s mission is to support others in developing the capacity to listen deeply to themselves. He is dedicated to fostering self-understanding, awareness, and growth in a way that feels natural and accessible, encouraging clients to uncover their own inner resources and wisdom.

Qualification & Training: Mike’s foundation as a trained teacher gave him insight into learning, growth, and human development. Over the years, he has expanded his skills through community care and long-standing involvement in men’s circles. His ongoing personal study, reflection, and engagement with others continue to deepen his practice and strengthen the way he supports clients.
